This new envelope made from Dyneema Composite Fabric for the Idefx prototype has several improvements over previous versions. It is constructed using a "single gore" method where instead of being constructed from a large number of completely separate strips of fabric, it is instead constructed of single piece of fabric that is folded in on itself at the tail and nose to create the characteristic curve. This reduces the amount of seams that need to be created while creating a smooth low drag curve in the blimp. You may notice only one of the seams in this picture extends down the entire length of the blimp, with all the others only going to the end of the curve. Also this envelope uses a new coating system we have developed that consists of multiple layers offering gas barrier, moisture barrier, and UV protection in thin and lightweight coatings.
